The Principle of Potential

Covey talks about the idea that we as human beings are embryonic, i.e. at an undeveloped/immature stage.
However, this does not mean we are to remain static and undeveloped for the remaining of our days. The basic idea that we agree that we are embryonic promotes the possibility of growth and development.
Understand that if you were perfect and already at the top, there is no room for development but if you are at an undeveloped stage right now, this means you have the possibility of releasing more potential in the days to come and like Covey mentions in his book “develop more and more talents”.
Hence, acquiring any form of knowledge, skill or talent IS possible. This is what the principle of potential is all about. Anything we want to do or become is learnable. If on the first try, we failed due to the fact that we were still immature in that field, that is not a problem since failure PROMOTES the possibility of a future success.
Let’s take the example of Thomas Edison who failed 1000 times before inventing the light bulb and when asked about this, he said “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
If you tried but failed today, DON’T GIVE UP as chances are that you will DEFINITELY succeed tomorrow!!
Success therefore is simply the ultimate result of a series of failures that releases more and more potential in an individual!
